Captain Cook

Captain Cook

James Cook was born in 1728 of poor parents. He was born in the small village Marton in Yorkshire.

Here is a fact, Dr. Livingstone was also born in Yorkshire.
At the age of 26 he became a naval officer.

What places he explored: Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica, Pacific Ocean, Tahiti, Indonesia, Cape of Good Hope, Tonga, Vanuatu and Hawaii.

He lived in London.

The first European to set foot on the East Coast of Australia was his nephew Isaac Smith.

In Hawaii, the natives stole a sailboat. Cook tried to kidnap the chief to hold him as ransom for the boat. In the attempt a fight broke out and he died in the fight.

He is the most famous for exploring the South Pacific.

I had lots of fun learning this!
